Questionβ€” the standard Substack "Subscribe" button will automatically change to offer an upgrade to paid or say the current subscribers are already subscribed. What do current subscribers see when you change it to a custom button?

Hi Janine. I’m not sure. You can check if you look at it in incognito mode maybe? I would hope they see the original button I made. After you subscribe, the button would change to the offer upgardes most likely.

Atomic Habits is one of my favorite books of all times.

LOVE this post. How do I add a β€œBook A Consult with Me” like the one on Sarah Fry’s page in the upper right corner?!?!

You can use the custom button option and point it to go to your landing page, email, anywhere. You can say whatever you like on any custom button and send people to any web page. (Example: your https://calendly.com/ page).

Thanks so much! I was just curious about how she got the placement of her β€œBook a Meeting” button next to her Substack newsletter name (just left of the search button) on her home page. Is that a special thing for special people, or can bottom feeders like me do that, too? If so, I’ll be so happy!

can you link to the page that is on? I'm not sure what it looks like to you.

I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out how she got that button. I suppose I could just ask her...but I like to figure things out.

Your post just popped into my feed, so I figured you might point out the obvious trick that I'm missing!

So the button I see says Upgrade to Paid. Maybe paid subscribers have an option to install a different link there.? Anyway, I'm sure you could send her an email and ask. Most people want to help each other, and I'm sure Sarah is! I'd be interested to hear her answer. (her email is: mssarahfay1516 [at] gmail.com)

My newsletter is free, so. there are a bunch of things that are different between paid and not within Substack, unfortunately - but hey, everyone has to make a buck!

Any recommendations on how to create a button that triggers "reply to email"?

Amazing, Paul. This is lateral thinking ahaha

Hi Paul. As always your guidance is awesome. Thank you.

Once you've created the Custom Button, can you save it, or do you need to create this for each post your do? ❓❓❓

I copy the URL to a note and paste when needed! I usually change the wording each time to whatever seems appropriate in the moment.

Awesome. Thank you. So much more fun than 'Subscribe'!

Very useful notes. Thank you. How do you get the "Read for more?" subscribe banner at the bottom?

I built the banner in Canva, and just link it to any article. Thanks for reading.
