Get Folks to Like You by Making Them Feel Good About Themselves
If you can make others feel great when they read your words, hear your voice, see your face on a zoom call, they will immediately be attracted to you.
The important idea is that it is not about you. It is about them. Itβs how THEY feel when they are with you.
The key is to get the other person to know, like and trust you. If you can get to that, then you have a new customer, client, subscriber, or best friend.
It is human nature and this truth is built into all of us.
OK, How?Β
The first interaction.
Learn and use their name plus other information about them. Ask about their job, where they live, their family, and so on.
Ask open ended questions to get them to talk. βWhat keeps you awake at 3am?β
Repeat back to them the gist of what they just told you, showing you understand their ideas.
Be real with them, smile often, nod, hold eye contact (until it feels weird).
End with how great it was to have met them, and that you loved the interaction. Make them feel like they just met their new best friend.
Inject a bit of humour into the conversation when appropriate.
If you are introverted - practice.
And if you want to leave a lasting impression, send them a short hand-written note through the postal service. Tell them a little about yourself, your shared common interests, and your personal email address. I can remember the 2 handwritten personal notes I have received over the past 20 years !
