Even though I have never been asked to diagram a sentence for anyone outside of my teacher... sentence structure is important.
Your author also added the simplified approach to explaining the concept by providing small paragraphs with graphics.
Words are everything!
Our minds immediately assimilate what is being written/said into how can this be good for me. If it gets cluttered with polysyllabic words, we lose interest.
