This is a good message for Substack writers who treat the header as an afterthought.

Just trained my custom GPT that I use for editing and SEO to take this information and let me know if my Headlines are good enough.

Sounds interesting. Let me know how it works for you. Maybe others would like to use it:)

How do you train a custom GPT? I pay for the upgrade, but there's so much more I can use it for.

By training it, we mean feeding your writing into chatGPT and ask it to learn your writing style. And then ask it to reply in your "voice". I would just copy and paste the text of a bunch of your posts (with lots of writing), tell ChatGPT what you are uploading, and why. Ask it if it understands what you are trying to do. Then it should understand your writing style/voice and come up with a draft foer an article or whatever you want to use it for. Maybe ask Chase Roper (above) how he did it for his work.

Good luck!

Thanks -that makes sense. I heard a speaker share how to set up a brand personality using ChatGPT. I need to use it more.

Chase-what do you do to train Chat GPT to do this?

Hey Kathy! Great question. Paul isn’t too far off except I’m not training it write things for me in my voice. I’ve got the writing in my voice down just fine ;) I enjoy writing, it’s my artistic expression.

What I get bored with is writing headlines, subtitles, making sure I’m mindful using good SEO practices, editing, etc. I used my pro openai account to create custom GPT with a focus on those things. I “trained” it on SEO strategies and best practices and well as fed it my bio and descriptions of my publication and posting schedule. It’s like my little super intern.

Thanks! I struggle with headlines. I’ve used some headline sites to evaluate for SEO performance. The headlines I’ve gotten through my pro account are too formal so I use the other sites also. Training ChatGPT to learn my voice will be key.

You can also revise your prompt to be something like “review the article below and write me 10 possible SEO headlines that are 64 characters or less. The style should be witty and self aware.” Then include your article and refine from there. Sometimes, just seeing some pretty close suggestions will give me other ideas so it’s a pretty great tool.
