Ch. 7 sees a dramatic turn in the story. Victor learns of William's death ... has a brief encounter with the creature ... and realizes the creature is the murderer. As he returns home, he learns from his family that Justine is the accused murderer. He knows Justine is innocent, and only he knows the murderer's identity. It is here that Shelley cranks up the tension and horror. Eventually, as the crimes continue, Victor will come to the terrible realization of his own guilt.
