There's more, Dan! In 1971, Bowie was in a short-lived band called Arnold Corns, just prior to the "birth" of his Ziggy Stardust character. He and the Corns band even recorded "Moonage Daydream" which underwent a new recording (with The Spiders) for the Ziggy album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAG7pWO8Z_8 Enjoy!
I had the import single at the time (it was only released in the UK...certainly not in the States). Back then (sans internet), the rock mags were saying something about "Bowie when he was briefly recording as Arnold Corns." So, that' what I've been thinking this whole time, that it was basically a pseudonym.
Turns out, he formed this band (not sure he was actually in it....he formed it, then said he'd write for them....and, apparently sing) at the Dulwich School for Boys in London, and named it, inspired by the Pink Floyd song, "Arnold Layne."
And now you know the rest of the story........and, knowing's half the battle!
Well, here again, you'd have to kinda be there at the time....this is what works for me in Tune Tag. Whaddaya gonna Google, "What bands was Bowie in before Ziggy?" Maybe. But, if you don't know the Corns name (and his involvement in it/them) to begin with, you don't know to go look up what I just did (the Floyd reference I didn't know, or from which school they came)!
As for 'Mericans, as it was never available (possibly on one of the many compilations over the years) here, even the older, most die-hard Brits might have a chance to know the name!
Bowie and his guitarist/arranger Mick Ronson produced the Transformer album for Lou Reed, which includes Walk On The Wild Side. You can also hear Bowie's vocals and sax on the album, not to mention Ronson's guitar and arrangements. Around the same time, Bowie gifted his song All The Young Dudes to Mott The Hoople, revitalizing their career, and worked on Raw Power with Iggy & The Stooges. He was a busy man!
I have a critical datapoint on EVs. i was in Mexico for 1 week and saw 1 EV and it was a Chinese BYD. The $10M Spotify scammer inspired me to write a whole article. Shame on him
I read this, but just now listened to the podcast. Pretty awesome! Tomorrow morning my newsletter comes out. I uploaded a book pdf into NotebookLM and got a podcast summary. Hope you like it. The book is "Don't Believe Everything You Think" by Joseph Nguyen.
David Bowie on acoustic guitar and the Stones opening for anyone, though now that I think about it, they probably did a bunch of opening gigs in their early days - very cool post, Paul!!
I didn't know Bowie played on Walk on the Wild Side!

Very cool! And I would guess quite an unknown fact...

Just the info about TinEye would have made my day - the rest is gravy!
And . . . Death once had a near-Chuck-Norris experience.
Yes, it's a cool app for sure!
…the irony of having a robot boss sometime in our near future is shorting out my system…
Quite possible. But you may become the Boss, and have robots doing what you tell them? Hmmm...
…at that point whom is really the robot…
Are we just in a simulation? My head hurts. “Robot-rub my head”.
