Don’t have a frickin conniption.
How to deal with unexpected events.
When your Substack newsletter isn’t sent out to all your subscribers a minute after hitting the publish now button.
Just relax, and wait a little while. Let it be.
Or when you are looking for a partner. Or waiting for a delivery of some stuff that you really could do without. Or anything that is out of your control. And most of what we experience in our day to day lives we have no control over.
Like the internet going out in the middle of scrolling. Or the banking machine is down. Or your drug store gets hacked and has to close for 7 days. (London Drugs Drug store chain closed for a week because of a hack).
Or your flight gets cancelled.
Or you get a cold.
Or your ancestors homeland gets invaded by a crazy dictator.
Or a novel virus from another country invades your life and upends it for more than 3 years.
Or it starts to rain when you are on your way back from a long walk.
The wifi goes out while trying to upload your Substack post.
Or your credit card is compromised and cancelled.
You get the idea. Through no fault of our own, shit happens.
How to not have a frickin conniption.
It seems like some days we get bombarded by any number of these unexpected emergencies. What can we do to deal with them?
We can manage these extraneous events with a positive mindset. Google “practice positive mindset”.
Maybe spend a couple minutes reading about the Stoics.

Often there are people fixing these irritating things quietly in the background. The bank’s IT department is working on the software glitch that has affected the ATMs. Or the internet service provider reboots your network and gets it working again.
So, it all boils down to how we do or don’t respond to any of these situations.
The easiest answer for me is to remember the acronym WAIT.
**W**Waiting with Patience: Cultivate patience while waiting for solutions to unfold.
**A**Acceptance: Practice acceptance of the situation and its inherent uncertainties.
**I**Introspection: Use the waiting period for self-reflection and personal growth
**T**Trust: Trust in the process and have faith that solutions will eventually emerge.
Add to this the great Beatles song title “Let it be”.
Funny thing. When you stop searching for something you have lost, or somebody to come into your life - why does the thing suddenly appear? Love the serendipity! Has this happened to you?
PS: The title of this article with the words frickin and conniption were used because they are on a list of the most used slang terms by state. Conniption is Texas’s most popular, and Frickin is one of Boston’s. (The Most Popular And Reviled American Slang Terms, Ranked).
It’s a bit like sitting in traffic! Some people get frantic and start changing lanes and getting grumpy. Others just accept and apply lipgloss. I’m in the lipgloss tribe!
Hahaha I had no idea this is how they spelled conniption. I know the word but have never written it or Googled it 😁
Also, solid advice here. I could use a lesson in patience most days.
