Up a Tree

One day I was at the watering hole filling my waterskin when I noticed a lion looking at me like I was lunch.

I scrambled up a tree. Twigs broke under my feet, but I climbed high enough that he couldn’t reach me.

The frustrated lion roared as he swiped at the tree limbs just below my feet. We locked eyes, “I’ll be seeing you again”, then turned and retreated.

I hadn’t noticed the bear who was watching and hiding behind a nearby bush.

When the lion was out of sight, the bear proceeded up the tree to try to eat me too.

I was killed upon impact after jumping out of the tree.
