When Steve Martin yells “The New Phonebook is Here”, in the movie “The Jerk” I’d like you to substitute the word “Phonebook” for the word “Dictionary” in your minds.
Why?
Well imagine my surprise when I read a recent article from Merriam Webster.com that they had just added 455 new words this month.
So?
Well my good readers, the word Deplatform is one of them! Isn’t that exciting?
No? Well this newsletter is called the “Deplatformable” newsletter!
As Steve Martins’ character says in the movie
“I’m somebody now. Millions of people look at this book everyday. This is the kind of spontaneous publicity, your name in print that makes people! I’m in print. Things are going to start happening to me now!”
And so as people see Navin R. Johnson’s name (Steve Martin’s character) in the phone book, people will also see “Deplatformable” in the dictionary and think of our little newsletter. Spontaneous publicity.
Some call me Nostradamus for a good reason. Like the world famous French astrologer, physician and reputed seer from the 1500’s, I too can predict the future.
In fact, I started this newsletter (you may want to sit down for this next part) in May of this year - 2021! I called it Deplatformable BEFORE it was even a real word. I know, right?
I talk about the name and why I call it that in this Newsletter. I have another website called Undeplatformable so that my articles are on my own servers. And nobody can shut them down.
I suggest that at the very least you should download your own article archives too. (It’s all the way down the https://YOURNAME.substack.com/publish/settings page on your site).
Of course people have been using the word for a few years now, so as it becomes popular, they put it in the dictionary.
