Squirrels just want to have fu’un,
That’s all they really want…
The leaves are starting to change in Kelowna BC. Mostly the green leaves turn to gold, and yellow. There are some that change to a red and orange. Just like in Ontario, where red maples electrified the woods and lakesides. Nice to see these:
We encounter a real mix of people on our daily walks. I usually nod, smile, and say “good morning”. More times than not people will reciprocate and say hi back. Some times people will avoid eye contact, and pretend not to hear my cheery salutation.
I encounter some folks who have something to say to complete strangers on a walk. I will sometimes ask people questions about themselves like;
“On a scale of 10, how are ya doing today?”
Yesterday I got a particularly strange reply.
“A zero”, the older man on a bench started to explain. “Been like this for 8 years, and 46 days”.
Why I said?
“Do you believe in God?”, he asked me. I didn’t answer.
“There’s a package, Do you know about the package?”, he said.
His conversation was not linear. He was just throwing thoughts out there - a different way of communication where I could not put the story he was trying to tell me into context. I learned that this is called ‘Circumstantial Speech’.
Circumstantial speech, also referred to as circumstantiality, is the result of a so-called "non-linear thought pattern" and occurs when the focus of a conversation drifts, but often comes back to the point.
Not sure what the point was though. As I nodded my head to acknowledge his response, he said one last thing:
“You are gonna hear about me. I will be the most famous person that ever lived”.
So I have something to look forward to.
