Quora Will Help Your Substack Grow
Answer questions... it will help your Substack growth!
I just logged into my Quora account for the first time in a long while. Quora is a forum website where people ask and answer questions. Unbeknownst to me, Quora just featured a post of mine written 6 years ago. It is an evergreen post and is still useful today:
Here is the post:
I just linked my Quora to my Substack account so that people might go to the Deplatformable Newsletter on Substack from Quora.
What’s the difference between Reddit and Quora?
Reddit and Quora are both popular online platforms that revolve around user-generated content and community discussions. However, they have different focuses, features, and community dynamics. Here's a comparison:
1. Purpose and Focus:
Reddit: Reddit is a social news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion platform/forum where registered members submit content, such as text posts or direct links. The content is organized into "subreddits," which are topic-based communities where users can discuss, share, and vote on posts.
Quora: Quora is a question-and-answer forum where users can ask questions on various topics and other users can provide answers. It aims to be a platform for sharing knowledge, expertise, and personal experiences.
2. Content Type:
Reddit: Reddit allows a wide variety of content types, including text posts, links, images, videos, and polls. Content can be short-form or long-form, and discussions can be in-depth or more casual.
Quora: Quora primarily focuses on written content in the form of questions and answers. Users can provide detailed responses, and discussions tend to be more text-oriented.
3. Community Interaction:
Reddit: Reddit encourages discussion and interaction through upvoting and downvoting of posts and comments. The highest-voted content rises to the top of the subreddit or the platform, promoting visibility. While the negative voted posts get ridiculed, mocked and shamed at by Redditors in their parent’s basements.
Quora: Quora emphasizes quality by allowing users to upvote and downvote both questions and answers. Well-received answers are highlighted, and users can also edit and collaborate on answers.
4. Anonymity:
Reddit: Reddit allows users to create pseudonymous accounts, providing a certain level of anonymity. Users can engage in discussions without revealing their real identities.
Quora: Quora encourages users to use their real names and identities to contribute to a more credible and accountable community.
5. User Experience:
Reddit: Reddit has a more casual and open-ended atmosphere. Discussions can range from lighthearted to very technical, depending on the subreddit.
Quora: Quora aims for a more structured and professional experience, with an emphasis on sharing expertise and valuable insights. The focus is on providing high-quality answers to questions.
6. Search and Discovery:
Reddit: Reddit's search functionality can be less precise, and finding specific content or answers to questions can sometimes be challenging due to the diverse content and organization.
Quora: Quora offers a robust search feature that allows users to find specific questions and answers related to their interests.
7. Moderation:
Reddit: Subreddits are often moderated by volunteers who enforce community guidelines and rules. The rules are quite important on Reddit. You don’t want to promote if the rules say no promotions. Moderation can vary widely between different subreddits.
Quora: Quora employs a team of moderators who oversee content quality and adherence to guidelines. The focus is on maintaining a high level of expertise and credibility.
Reddit and Quora cater to different types of user engagement. Reddit is more diverse in content and community culture, while Quora is centered around sharing knowledge and expertise.
Your choice between the two platforms would depend on your preferences for the type of content you want to engage with and the level of anonymity you desire.
And the folks on Quora are a bit gentler.😀

I've never been on Quora so I have a question. Can you drop a link in your Quora Q&A post? Otherwise, how does a post over there drive people to your Substack?
