Irony: A guy in Santa Barbara, California was putting up a 75-minute street-side parking limit sign when he got ticketed-for breaking the 75-minute limit. Dan Greding, a city contractor, was just doing his job in February 2014, installing the signs. While he worked, a parking officer rolled up and started writing him a ticket. Dan fought the $48 fine but lost his first appeal and so he just paid up.

There is a font named Gorton. Iβve not heard of it, but it is everywhere. Gorton feels as if itβs been made by machines for machines. It shows up everywhere as industrial writing in elevators, little steel plated signs, buttons, keyboards, calculators, mailboxes, address panels, sprinkler and valve signage, and so much more. Google's latest tracking policy now fingerprints all connected devices, allowing it to collect hardware and software data without user control. Google claims this method helps advertisers reach users on platforms like smart TVs and consoles, where cookies are less effective.
Unfortunately, there's no direct way to disable device fingerprinting entirely. However, you can take steps to reduce your exposure:
Use Private Browsing Modes: Features like Chrome's Incognito Mode prevent websites from storing cookies and tracking data between sessions. While this doesn't stop fingerprinting, it can limit some tracking methods.
Disable JavaScript: Many fingerprinting techniques rely on JavaScript to gather data. Turning off JavaScript can hinder these methods, but it may also disrupt website functionality.
Use Privacy-Focused Browsers: Browsers like Tor are designed to minimize tracking by standardizing browser characteristics, making fingerprinting more difficult.
Regularly Update Software: Keeping your devices and applications up to date can help protect against known vulnerabilities used in fingerprinting.
Remember in the 1980s, scientists found a hole in Earth's ozone layer, mostly over Antarctica. It was caused by chemicals called CFCs, used in things like fridges and sprays. CFCs release chlorine in the stratosphere, which destroys ozone. One chlorine atom can break down over 100,000 ozone molecules, thinning the layer.
To fix this, countries signed the Montreal Protocol in 1987 to phase out CFCs. It workedβthe ozone layer is healing. In 2024, the ozone hole was its smallest in five years, peaking at 22 million square kilometers on September 28 before closing in December.
The UN predicts the ozone layer will recover to 1980 levels by around 2066 over Antarctica, 2045 over the Arctic, and 2040 globally.
I lived in Calgary, Alberta when Ralph Klein was the premier. (for 14 years between 1992 to 2006.) He was Calgaryβs mayor for 8 and a half years before that. He was called a man of the people - relatable guy next door. His nick name was βKingβ Ralph.
He took aim at the owner of the province's infamous cow - that had mad cow disease - saying a "self-respecting" rancher would have simply "shot, shovelled and shut up." Instead of taking the animal to slaughter.
King Ralph was also known to throw loonies (dollar coins) at the streetβs βresidentially challengedβ as he drove around in his chauffeur driven limo.

Americans lost $5.6 billion in cryptocurrency fraud scams in 2023. 2024 losses were over $10 billion.
Crypto exchange Bybit says it was just hacked and lost around $1.4B. This is the newest βlargest crypto theft everβ. The phrase βnot your keys, not your coinsβ refers to private keys and how they affect custody of your assets.
Here is the best way to secure your Bitcoin:
Write down your seed phrase β Use a pen and paper. No screenshots, no digital notes. Keep multiple copies in safe places.
Keep it offline β Never store your seed phrase on a computer, phone, or cloud storage. Hackers love easy targets.
Use a hardware wallet β Devices like Ledger or Trezor keep your private keys safe from online threats.
Stay off exchanges β Exchanges can be hacked or freeze your funds. Move your crypto to a wallet you control.
Use a strong passphrase (if supported) β This adds extra security on top of your seed phrase.
Beware of phishing β Scammers will try to trick you into revealing your keys. Never share them with anyone.
Test recovery β Before storing large amounts, do a small test to ensure you can restore your wallet.
