βIn Between - August 2β
βToday, I will accept where I am as the ideal place for me to be.
I will strive for the faith that this place is not without purpose, that it is moving me toward something good". ~ Melody Beattie βThe Language of Letting Goβ
π 41 years ago todayβ¦Saturday, August 2, 1980 was the biggest turning point in my life. It is still like a re-birth day to me.
Time and events are either before 1980 or after 1980.
It was also my mothersβ birthday. It was that day that I left the comfort and support of my family that I had had for 24 years.
Now I had to grow up, βcause there was no going back, to my thinking anyway.
On Friday, August 1, I went to the local bank and withdrew my life savings - $400. I kissed my folks goodbye. Iβm not sure where my Bro Dave was. He got the car, and the stereo system.
My parents went away that weekend from Windsor, Ontario to visit friends in Akron Ohio. Before the pandemic we could travel anywhere in the world - imagineβ¦
βThe morning of my flight I packed a little suitcase with all the things, and flew nearly 2000 miles west to start a job that I found in the Windsor Starβs classified ad section.
I didnβt have a place to stay yet in Saskatoon, but I did have unlimited resources; 4 hundy, plus a $6.50/hour job waiting for me on Monday morning.
When I got off the plane, I told the cab driver to take me to a nice hotel in the heart of my new home city. He dropped me at the Bessborough.
I checked in under the name Paul Rockefeller, cause obviously I was a big shot. My new life was under way. I met my now wife at my new job. We had a beautiful baby girl named Shannon a couple years after we got married.
